Ghana National Landscape Forum 2025

Ghana¡¯s economy and its population are heavily dependent on renewable and non-renewable natural resources. In 2023, export earnings from gold, cocoa, and oil accounted for about 80 percent of all exports. Though the economic structure is shifting to services, 35 to 45 percent of the jobs are still based on renewable natural resource sectors, including agriculture, forestry, livestock, and fisheries. Ghana¡¯s ecosystems provide multiple benefits to the economy ¨C in 2021, the total value of ecosystem services was estimated at US$1,502 million, equivalent of 1.9 percent of the national gross domestic product (GDP).
